Other Wildlife
In our experience, there is always something to look at while waiting for target species to show up. Lots of the little stuff is as fascinating as those gorgeous birds and charming mammals, and sometimes just as flashy or engaging.
Even leeches are as amazing as they are annoying. Those stealthy, thread-sized blood suckers are capable of diving into your boot and burrowing through your sock in a second. They steal up your pants leg and wriggle under your waistband, or slyly drop onto your neck and sneak down your shirt for a snack. Their bite doesn’t hurt, but it can take a while for the bleeding to stop after you pull the little guys off, which added a little color to our wardrobe. They are not particularly good looking, however, so the following images feature some of the more photogenic inhabitants of forest and field.
