Burano
We only took one day trip from Venice and that was to Burano, a picturesque island town in the Venetian Lagoon. Historically, Burano was famous for lace making. Though there are still a few lacemakers in town and a lovely museum, Burano is now better known for its tidy, brightly painted houses lining the canals. The building colors are controlled by the government. When someone wishes to paint their home, he/she must submit a request and then choose from the specific colors permitted for that lot. It also seems that there is a requirement to hang coordinating and/or colorful laundry in front of each house even on cool, cloudy days. Burano was an idyllic, photogenic location with great seafood.
